Ornithogalum schmalhausenii
A beautiful specimen collected by Arnis Seisums on Mount Hustup in the Zangezur Mountains in Armenia, where this striking Ornithogalum was flowering amongst the melting snow at an altitude of 3,000 metres. The inflorescence, consisting of star-shaped white-green flowers, emerges almost stemless from the narrow-leaved, dark-green leaf rosettes. Ideal for the rock garden.

BELONGS TO THE HYACINTHACEAE FAMILY
From the Greek: ornis (bird) and gala (milk). The genus Ornithogalum consists of a group of bulbous plants suitable for naturalization. The many species, as well as the cultivars, are certainly suitable as cut flowers.
They originate predominantly from the temperate regions of Europe, Asia, and Africa. The bulbs are said to be quite nutritious and tasty, naturally after being cooked.
