Leucojum

Ontleend aan het Griekse woord leucoeion wat zoveel betekent als: ’witte ogen’. Deze naam werd gebruikt door Hippocrates. Dit geslacht is nauw verwant aan Galanthus. Het voornaamste verschil zit in de lengte van de kelkblaadjes. Bij Leucojum zijn ze van gelijke lengte.
