Crocus, herfstbloeiend

Autumn-flowering crocuses often grow in areas where the summers are very dry. The mild autumn rain encourages the crocus to bloom. The most famous, however, is Crocus sativus, which produces the precious saffron. The book 'Crocuses, A complete Guide to the Genus' by Janis Ruksans, published in 2010, devotes almost 50 pages to this group.
