Description
Also called Spring Corydalis or bird-in-a-bush. Origin: Lebanon, West Asia and parts of Europe. In the Netherlands along the great rivers around old country estates and even some areas in South Limburg. A particular feature of this plant is the duct-like scale at the beginning of the flower stem. The flowers form a cluster and are often purple. The delicate incised leaves have a fresh green colour. BELONGS TO THE FAMILY OF PAPAVERACEAE, FUMARIOIDEAE
According to an ancient Greek dictionary, korys or korythos means: head covering, helmet, or hood. The Latin korydalis (crowned lark) is likely derived from this. The spurs of the flowers bear a resemblance to the crest of a lark.
The genus Corydalis comprises hundreds of beautiful species and the cultivars derived from them. All species, which are particularly suitable for planting under shrubs and trees, prefer a (partially) shaded spot.
