Narcissus cavanillesii

A species native to the Iberian Peninsula and northwest Africa. Previously, this autumn-flowering daffodil was considered a separate genus, Tapeinanthus. As soon as growth begins, the little daffodil starts flowering immediately with flowers about a centimetre in size, with no obvious trumpet. The very small bulbs should be planted deeply and left alone in summer. A crop for the enthusiast, not always easy to grow.

BELONGS TO THE FAMILY OF AMARYLLIDACEAE

The distribution area is large, namely: Southern, Central, and Western Europe, North Africa, China, Japan, and scattered areas in Southwest Asia. However, the vast majority are found in Spain and Portugal.

The name 'Narcissus' is derived from the Greek verb 'narkaoo', which means to numb or to stun. The scent of narcissus was formerly considered numbing or sleep-inducing. The range has arisen from a colorful interplay of wild forms, modern varieties, and historical cultivars. The old varieties, in particular, have a strong fragrance and naturalize well, as they have proven. Especially with modern cultivars, the flowers are more colorfast and have a more perfect shape.
