Description

Division 7. Intro 1986, J.W. Blanchard, England, created from N. jonquilla x N. rupicola subsp. watieri. A richly flowering, wonderfully scented jonquilla with soft yellow flowers, turning slightly darker towards the dark yellow cup.

BELONGS TO THE FAMILY OF AMARYLLIDACEAE

The distribution area is large, namely: Southern, Central, and Western Europe, North Africa, China, Japan, and scattered areas in Southwest Asia. However, the vast majority are found in Spain and Portugal.

The name 'Narcissus' is derived from the Greek verb 'narkaoo', which means to numb or to stun. The scent of narcissus was formerly considered numbing or sleep-inducing. The range has arisen from a colorful interplay of wild forms, modern varieties, and historical cultivars. The old varieties, in particular, have a strong fragrance and naturalize well, as they have proven. Especially with modern cultivars, the flowers are more colorfast and have a more perfect shape.
