Colchicum bulbocodium

Common name: meadow saffron. Has been known since 1629. Occurs in the Pyrenees, the Alps, the Balkans and the Caucasus. Bulbocodium is closely related to Colchicum. The leaves that develop just before or during flowering, reach a length of 15-20 cm after flowering and die off in early summer. The flowers appear in January and are soft lilac. They require a well-drained soil.
