Narcissus 'Sinopel'
Division 3. A small-crowned daffodil, introduced in 1974 by P. de Jager and Sons. Of the six white petals, the inner three are slightly wavy. The flat cup is spherical, ribbed and greenish-white with a small yellow edge. Weather conditions determine the intensity of the cup’s green colour.
Description
Season: Late Height: Dwarf - less than 32.5 cm (12.8 in) Hybridiser: Brian S. Duncan Year Registered: 1993 Country: Northern Ireland Colour: W-GYP
BELONGS TO THE FAMILY OF AMARYLLIDACEAE
The distribution area is large, namely: Southern, Central, and Western Europe, North Africa, China, Japan, and scattered areas in Southwest Asia. However, the vast majority are found in Spain and Portugal.
The name 'Narcissus' is derived from the Greek verb 'narkaoo', which means to numb or to stun. The scent of narcissus was formerly considered numbing or sleep-inducing. The range has arisen from a colorful interplay of wild forms, modern varieties, and historical cultivars. The old varieties, in particular, have a strong fragrance and naturalize well, as they have proven. Especially with modern cultivars, the flowers are more colorfast and have a more perfect shape.
