Description

Intro: 1573. Snake's head fritillary. Occurs almost everywhere in Europe. In the Netherlands it can be found along the floodplains of the river IJssel, and in large numbers near Hasselt and the Reeuwijkse Plassen. It is a Stinzen plant. Ideally suited for naturalising. The leaves are oblong. It bears almost always one bell shaped flower per stem, but when the plant is fixed in one spot for a longer period of time, the number of flowers can be up to three per stem. The flowers are white to purple with many shades in between, often with a speckled and/ or block-shaped pattern.
