BELONGS TO THE FAMILY OF IRIDACEAE

One of the best-known bulbous plants is undoubtedly the crocus. As early as 1548, a publication entitled The Names of Herbes by William Turner described a list of crocuses for the garden. The monograph The World Of Crocus by Janis Ruksans provides us with good insight into this genus. Crocus comprises a very large number of species and the hundreds of cultivars derived from them. The selection, in which we have followed the nomenclature from the new monograph as closely as possible, consists of a fairly broad spectrum including very rare species and cultivars that were sometimes not previously available in the Netherlands. Virtually all crocuses are suitable for naturalization.
