Description
Native to Turkey, Iran and Armenia, even though the Armenian forms are distinct from the Turkish ones. Clearly, we are dealing with a variable species. The spring-flowering Colchicum occurs on somewhat damper mountain meadows, at 2000-3000 metres altitude. The mostly pink, sometimes white flowers appear in March-April. The foliage, often two slender, glossy lanceolate leaves, develops after flowering.
