Bij benadering zijn er honderd species van het geslacht Lelie bekend. Het aantal cultivars rijst de pan uit en loopt in de duizenden. De species worden aangetroffen in bosachtige streken van Europa, Centraal- en Zuid-Azië tot aan de Filippijnen en Noord-Amerika. Vele lelies geuren. Het zinnebeeld van reinheid en onschuld!
