BELONGS TO THE FAMILY TRILLIACEAE

Trillium is derived from the Latin word tri (three). This is because both the leaf and the flower consist of three parts. Origin: Siberia, Korea, Japan, and China. A single species is found in the western part of the Himalayas, but the majority occurs in large parts of Northeast America.

Trillium is recognizable by its bare flower stalks, three leaves forming a whorl, three prominent petals, and three bracts. The underground part consists of a thickened rhizome with laterally placed buds (new shoots).
