Description
Intro: 1859. Origin: Eastern Turkey. The two to three greyish green leaves enclose the base of the up to 15cm high plant. The flower cluster can contain up to 60, barely five millimeters large, bell-shaped, densely grouped flowers. Each petal of the sky blue (azureus) flowers has a dark stripe. Good species for naturalising.
BELONGS TO THE FAMILY OF HYACINTHACEAE
This widely known genus has several synonyms: Botryanthus, Muscarimia, and Pseudomuscari.
Muscari comes from the Latin: muscus (musky).
Some species are surrounded by this musky scent.
The genus Muscari consists of about thirty species originating from the Mediterranean region, Turkey, to the Caucasus.
Known by the collective name grape hyacinths.
