Iris bucharica 'Top Gold'

An easy-growing species found in the Pamir Alai Mountains but also in Tajikistan and north-eastern Afghanistan. The shiny layered leaves face each other. Up to seven delightfully fragrant flowers emerge from the upper leaf axils. There are several selections of Iris bucharica. Top Gold is one of the best though, with primula yellow flowers whose lip is deep golden yellow, sprinkled here and there with golden brown speckles. Usually three or more flowers per flower stem are open.
