Introduction: 1846. Origin: north-eastern Turkey, on slate-like slopes in spots where the last remnants of melting snow remain. Both the original species and the cultivated form are becoming increasingly rare. The flower stalk is only 5 to 7 cm tall and is surrounded by 3 to 4 grey-green bracts. The drooping dark purple and brown flowers are covered with a grey blush on the outside.
