A beautiful low-growing wild form native to north-western Iran, in the province of Azerbaijan, growing on rocky slopes. The pinkish star-shaped flowers appear between two slightly wider pairs of leaves. The protruding yellow stamens, which form a haze over the inflorescence, are particularly striking. A. shelkovnikovii varies in flower colour; forms ranging from purplish pink to pale pink are known.
