Description
Striking South African species, already known since 1774. The white flowers have a strongly contrasting red border. The flowers, which bloom well into the winter, are at their best in a half-open state, when the spiralled petals have a candy cane effect. The leaves consist of three slender, linear, fragile leaf parts that look like they have been cut perfectly straight with scissors. A true pot plant which tolerates temperatures to six degrees below zero. As a indoor plant, this Oxalis could bloom for a long time.
BELONGS TO THE FAMILY OF OXALIDACEAE
Origin: South Africa and tropical and subtropical America. Oxalis is derived from the Greek names oxys (sharp) and als (salty), referring to the taste of the plant sap.
They prefer well-drained sandy peat soil, which does not need to be rich in nutrients. Oxalis is particularly suitable for a sunny rock garden, pots, and hanging baskets. Cover in winter or overwinter indoors.
