BELONGS TO THE FAMILY OF ASPHODELACEAE

Cleopatra's Needle and Steppe Lily. Eremurus comes from the Greek words: eremos (desert, solitary) and oura (tail). Its natural habitats are the dry, rocky, and heavily grazed mountain slopes from Eastern Turkey to the Himalayas, with species in China. The roots are thick and fleshy, resembling a very large spider. Despite this ‘size’, an Eremurus should be planted very shallowly: three cm of soil on the root-forming tuber is sufficient. As its natural habitat indicates, an Eremurus requires well-draining soil in a sunny spot. Fertilize generously with organic fertilizer during flowering and growth. Be careful in winter, however; Eremurus is somewhat frost-sensitive, so cover it.
