Aspidistra sichuanensis 'Ichi Mori Ji’

The uniquely yellow-green striped-leaved Japanese selection 'Ichi Mori Li, of the Aspidistra sichuanensis native to China, planted out in the open in the garden, forms a dense and richly foliated inflorescence about 60 cm high. The plant develops best in decomposed leafy soil in a shaded spot in the garden and may flower later in life. Some vigilance is required before the typically shaped brown waxy flowers become visible; they appear at the bases of the plant, just slightly above the soil surface, towards the end of summer. Experience shows that it is an excellent houseplant for a shaded, somewhat dark place.
