Camassia -Hybrids-

To select new colours and flower shapes in Camassia, large fields of mixed Camassia are grown. The natural pollinators do their job and newly formed seed is sown again a year later. Thus, new plants continue to emerge from which plenty are selected. Such a mixed group of Camassia would also undoubtedly do well in the border.

BELONGS TO THE HYACINTHACEAE FAMILY

Camassia is one of the special bulbous plants that comes into its own perfectly in a border, but is also recommended for under shrubs. The origin of most camassias lies in North America, where the bulbs served as food for Native Americans until this century, from which the name Camassia (derived from Quamash or Camass) was derived. In addition to nutrient-rich sandy soil, Camassia also thrives on heavier clay soil, as long as the soil does not remain too wet in winter.
