Description

BELONGS TO THE FAMILY OF CONVALLARIACEAE

Origin: in the temperate regions of Europe, Asia, and North America. Lily of the Valley, May Bells.

Also known as Mary's Tears, these sweet flowers originated from the tears of Mary at the crucifixion of Jesus. The Lily of the Valley is used as a symbol of humility in Christian paintings, probably because the flowers bend down demurely. Convallaria translated from Latin means: in the valley, majalis refers to the month of May.

A small rhizomatous perennial plant that prefers to grow in partial shade or shade on humus-rich soil. Ideal as undergrowth beneath woody plants. Convallaria is poisonous in all parts.
