Allium sativum v. ophioscorodon

Garlic (Allium sativum) was already described in 1601 in Clusius’ ''Rariorum Plantarum Historia". The ornamental value lies in the helical shape of the stem. The unique shape disappears only then when the curiously curved, heron’s beak resembling flower opens. The flower is spherical and consists of many tubular white flowers squeezed together. The Dutch name means: caduceus onion. Bulb size: one clove.
